RECREATIONAL TREE CLIMBING
We show you the basics of tree climbing using rope and harness techniques.
You will leave armed with knowledge of tree and plant biology and basic tree climbing experience.
Tree Explorers offer school holiday sessions, Saturday sessions, family sessions and can arrange private tree climbing events.
Based primarily in Eastbourne, East Sussex.
About Recreational Tree Climbing
Tree Explorers runs supervised recreational tree climbing activities using specifically designed equipment to give the participants an experience of ascending into the canopy of a tree in a controlled and safe manner and enabling them to see a new perspective of trees and their surroundings.
We do not aim to teach participants how to climb independently; rather to show them the basics of how to access trees using rope and harness techniques and educate them as to how the equipment we use works. All climbing activities will be controlled and supervised by qualified tree climbers on a 4:1 ratio.
Tree climbing for fun is a totally safe activity when done using harnesses and ropes. Your child will always be attached to a rope so will not be able to fall yet the will feel they have the freedom to move around the tree as if they were climbing unaided.
Education is an important part of our business; teaching biological and environmental issues in context with the trees we are climbing is a powerful and relative way of putting the information across.

Health and Safety
of you and your children is our priority.
As parents ourselves we are extremely conscious of our responsibility to you and your children.
The Important information
We use only branded outdoor climbing equipment such as DMM and Petzl. We ensure all our equipment is checked before each use from helmets, harnesses to ropes and carabinas. LOLER inspections are carried out by a qualified assessor on a 6 monthly basis.
We have Public Liability insurance for up to 2 million and would be happy to provide you with a certificate on request.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Before each climb a safety inspection of the tree is carried out to ensure the tree is safe and any deadwood or other dangers are removed. There is a safety line in the tree each climb to ensure that if the need arises to get someone out of a tree quickly we have the capability to do so.
Currently we only take children age 7 and above. This is because we have found children of this age and above are able to listen and follow instructions more carefully. Our knowledgeable knots sessions on the ground are also aimed with this age in mind.
